Congratulations to Villanova Preparatory School Junior Rhett Speer who won the 2019 Ojai Valley Lions Club Student Speakers Contest.

This year’s topic was Freedom of the Press and this year’s winner was awarded $100 and  will now go on to the Zone level competition in March, competing with winners from other Lions Clubs in Ventura County. We wish him luck at the next level!

Purpose of the Contest

• To provide an opportunity for competitive public speaking among students on a subject of vital interest to the contestants and to the American people as a whole.

• To stimulate self-expression and independent thinking.

• To present to the public through the student speakers contests the problems surrounding the maintenance of this commonwealth as a free nation.

• To consider the means at our disposal of meeting the present and future world problems.

The final contest winner could win over $20,000 in college scholarships!
